BAKER SIGNS WITH SAU FOOTBALL Magnolia High School senior, Jay Todd Baker, recently signed a letter of intent to play football for the Southern Arkansas University Muleriders. Jay Todd finished an outstanding career as a punter/kicker for the Magnolia Panther football team. While playing for the Panthers, Baker was a two-time All-Conference and All-State selection. He was named the 2021 5A South Outstanding Punter/Kicker and selected to play in the 2022 FCA Arkansas vs Texas All-Star Game. During his high school career, Baker averaged a remarkable 41.3 yards per punt and had an 89% conversion rate for his field goals and extra points. He also scored 157 points for MHS during his career. Jay Todd is the son of Carey Baker and the late Jamie Baker.

NATIONAL SCHOOL COUNSELOR WEEK IN ARKANSAS Governor Asa Hutchinson has proclaimed the week of February 7-11, 2022 as National School Counselor Week in Arkansas to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within the U.S. school system and how students are different as a result of what they do. National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students meet their college and career aspirations. The Magnolia School District recognizes the contributions of nine school counselors employed by the District. Each day these counselors make significant contributions to lives of our children. The District greatly appreciates the remarkable work these counselors do to provide a positive influence on the future of all students. Arkansas Boys and Girls State Taking Applications Arkansas Boys and Girls State programs are returning to in-person formats for 2022! Boys State will be held at the University of Central Arkansas May 29-June 3. Girls State will be held at Harding University during the same time period. Any junior who is interested in applying should see Mrs. Callicott before February 4. Benefits of attending include: • Learn about political, governmental, and civic structures • Learn to communicate your views • Build meaningful relationships with those of different world views • Build networks/lifelong relationships with other students • Create lasting memories • Use this experience on future college essays, employment applications, etc.

The Magnolia School District will be closed Friday, January 14 due to the number of staff and students absent. This day will be used as an AMI day. All school events will be rescheduled. The District will evaluate the numbers over the next few days to make a decision when to return to normal schedules. The District will be closed Monday, January 17 in observance of Martin Luther King Day. Hopefully school can resume on Tuesday. We are sorry for any inconvenience due to this late announcement.
