🧶 Our Students, Our Stories: Spotlight on Ke’niahya Mallory!

Ke’niahya Mallory, a senior at Magnolia High School, is an outstanding student known not only for her academic motivation and bright personality, but also for her incredible artistic talent — crocheting!

Whether she’s listening attentively in class, enjoying lunch in the cafeteria, or spending time with friends, Ke’niahya’s hands are almost always busy creating something beautiful. And she doesn’t just crochet simple potholders or blankets — she designs and creates sweaters, full outfits, stuffed animals, and even miniature Panther cheerleaders! What’s even more impressive is that Ke’niahya doesn’t rely on patterns; she free-hands most of her designs with creativity and confidence.

Ke’niahya began crocheting in 2022, when she was only 14 years old. “It was a struggle at first, so I took a three-month break,” she shared. “I learned from YouTube, and ever since then, I’ve been doing great!”

Her English teacher, Mrs. Hamilton, recalls her first impression:

“At first, I was a little shocked when, in 10th grade, Ke’niahya pulled out balls of yarn and crochet needles in class and began making headbands. But I quickly realized this wasn’t just her hobby — it was her form of doodling. Crocheting kept her hands busy, so she could focus on the lesson.”

In 2024, Ke’niahya turned her passion into a business: Crochet Cutie, offering “Handmade happiness crafted with love.” You can check out more of her designs on Facebook and TikTok at @crochet_cutie.

Ke’niahya truly represents what it means to be Panther P.R.O.U.D. Her natural artistic talent, creativity, and determination will serve her well as she plans to attend cosmetology school after graduation.
