Our AP Biology and AP Environmental Science students teamed up for a joint investigation using DNA analysis and miniONE electrophoresis systems in an exciting lab called “What’s in the Trunk? An Elephant Expedition.”
Students stepped into the role of forensic scientists by analyzing genetic data, making evidence-based claims, and exploring how biotechnology can be used to understand population interactions and support conservation efforts.
This experience was made possible thanks to miniONE electrophoresis systems purchased through the Accelerated Learning Equipment and Materials Grant, along with Bio-Rad Gel Electrophoresis Systems generously loaned by the SAU STEM Center. We are incredibly grateful for the support and partnerships that help bring authentic, hands-on science into our classrooms.
Special thanks to Dr. White at the SAU STEM Center for his support and generosity.
