East Side Student Wins Picturing Economics Art Competition

Madisyn Johnson, a 2nd-grade student at East Side, has been selected as one of twelve winners in the Economics Arkansas 2024 Picturing Economics Art Competition. Students in grades K-8 from across the state participated, illustrating key economic concepts. Madisyn’s artwork, which creatively depicts the concept of an “entrepreneur,” is featured on the Economics Arkansas website, alongside the other winning pieces.

You can view the winning artwork here: Picturing Economics Art Competition. Madisyn was the only lower elementary student to receive this honor this year!

Madisyn’s artwork was submitted by Technology Lab teacher Jessica Talley, who introduced the concept through a cookie-themed economics unit. Both Madisyn and Mrs. Talley received gift cards in recognition of their participation.

In addition, Madisyn’s framed artwork will be proudly displayed in the superintendent’s office. Since 2022, four East Side students have been recognized as winners in this competition, further highlighting the creativity and economic understanding fostered within our school community.

Congratulations, Madisyn!
